Beginner Nikon Dslr

which Nikon Dslr would be suitable for a beginner?

i did some research and it seems like the d40, d40x and the d60 are kinda popular among beginners.
im considering to buy the d60 (would it be replaced soon? please let me know!)
also, d40 has 6.1 mp, and im kinda worried? ;P i dont know, because right now im using a canon compact with 14.7 mp. maybe its just me..
help?

are there any entry level slrs coming out soon later this year?

help!
any advice would be great!
thanks!

The D60 has been the DSLR entry level for a little while now. It’s a solid camera with some good features. It replaced the D40, although at least one site I’ve read indicated that it wasn’t a substantial enough of an upgrade to justify and suggested buying a D40 and saving a few bucks. The Nikon Rumors site is suggesting that a “D3000″ will be announced August 4th. Speculation is that it’s a cheaper version of the D5000 without the video mode. It would be a decent improvement in sensor, not sure about the price point though, the D5000 came in a little high in my mind, too close to the D90.

As far as your compact goes, the sensor may by 14.7MP, but it’s a significantly smaller sized sensor and doesn’t render as good of an image as the larger sensors used in DSLR’s. You can think in terms of film cameras when people were shooting with 110 Instamatics and disc cameras versus real 35mm cameras, the negatives were so small and had to be enlarged so much that the image was much grainier and not nearly as sharp.
