hi i have a nikon d40 and latley if notice grain in my pictures taken in low light and at dawn…..it doesnt show up as much in auto mode as it does in manual. my iso is set at 200. WB is auto… everthing seams to be set right…….. i just purchased a refurbished 18-200 VR also……. it has been a while since i cleaned the sensor so maybe thats it idk can anyone tell me what i should do….

yea i checked and the iso is at 200 in manual…. its been a while since the image sensor was cleaned so maybe thats it….
If you click on “Image Info,” you will see that the ISO was not 200 for this image. It was 1600. There’s your problem.
Look in your custom settings menu and turn off “AUTO ISO.”
You shot at f/5.6 @1/8sec. ISO 200 would require f/5.6 for a full second. At 18mm, you could have used f/3.5, probably for 1/2 sec.
Try again with a tripod.
Be sure to turn the VR OFF if you are using a tripod.
