Little help buying my first DSLR?

I want to buy my first DSLR camera. I’m choosing between Nikon D60, Canon EOS D1000 and, maybe, the new Nikon D3000 that’s coming out in September.
I’ve read the reviews and, as I understood, D60 deals with light better than Canon. D3000 is basically the same as D60, only with a bigger screen (don’t care about this one) and has 11 point focus system ( D60 has 3 point. This sounds important, but I might be mistaken. I really am a newbie with DSLRs).

Should I buy D60 or should I wait for D3000? Or maybe Canon is better?

If this is your first DSLR, you need to buy one that is the simplest you can find … like the D40 with 18-55 mm lens for under $450.

By the time you are ready to explore the more sophisticated features found on the D3000, you will be well versed in shooting perfectly composed and exposed images each time you press the shutter release.

Until just recently all photographers (amateur and professionals) used one focusing point and the images produced by them were just as good or better than those shot by inexperienced shooters using even 51 point focusing systems.

Think about buying a less expensive camera to “learn on” and spend your money on other lenses.
