Nikon Change Aperture
Nikon Change Aperture

How can I see changes in aperture in the viewfinder on Nikon DSLRs?
I have a Nikon D40. When I change the aperture/F-stop setting on the camera I cannot see the changes in depth of field through the viewfinder. I’ve heard that Canon DSLRs have a setting that allows you to view these changes in the viewfinder.
Does anyone know if Nikon Cameras (specifically the Nikon D40) has this feature?
Many thanks.
You can ignore this question – I found out what it’s called: “Depth of field preview”. And Nikon D40s don’t have that feature :O(
Gutted.
What you may be looking for is called a depth of field preview. You should be able to see the aperture setting in the viewfinder in any current SLR but, its actual effect on depth of field is something you can’t see unless the lens is “stopped down” to the aperture you’ve selected. I know this feature is present on the D90 and higher end Nikons like the D300s, D700 or D3 series but, I don’t think it is available on the D40/D60 or D3000 that replaced them.
