Nikon Live View Mode
Nikon Live View Mode

Question about Nikon D5000 Live view?
I heard that when the live view mode is on, it slows down the autofocus dramatically?
does having the live view feature slow down the camera focus etc. altogether even when turned off?
I really want to get this camera, but I need to be certain.
By “slows down”, the people you heard it from must have been talking about the contrast-base auto focus, which is indeed slow. It’s slow even on a professional grade camera few times more expensive than the D5000, so it’s not the D5000’s fault, it’s the way they focus.
You can always use the phase detection auto focus, but it will temporary disable live view, focus, then turn live view on again. But it is still going to be slower by a little bit because of the mirror flipping actions.
You will learn to use the viewfinder to take picture soon enough after you get the camera. You know, look through that little glass window at the back of the camera with your eye, for the most part at least. Only use live view when you really need to.
