Does the Nikkor 18-200mm VR lens or Sigma 18-200mm OS lens autofocus on the Nikon D40x DSLR camera?

Both the Nikon 18-200 VR and the Sigma 18-200mm OS lenses will autofocus with the D40x.
Both lenses have a built-in focusing motor, the Nikon has AF-S, while Sigma has HSM (hypersonic motor).

The Nikon lens will likely have better optical performance, but of course it will also have a price that’s pretty high as well. I checked prices on pricegrabber and it’s selling for $644 at us1camera.com
The Sigma lens is selling at buydig.com for $429.
Essentially, if you can afford the additional $215, it’s worth it. But if you can’t, you won’t be unhappy with the Sigma. Sigma makes some high quality lenses, including lenses for which there is no Nikon equivalent.
I won’t tell you how to spend YOUR money; I will simply answer your question and tell you that both lenses will autofocus on the D40x and that the Nikon costs a bit more, but that the Sigma is a decent lens for the money. You won’t make as much if you resell the lens, but honestly, I plan on keeping my lenses, so I don’t buy them to resell.
Another thought: if the Sigma is what you can afford now, you can get it and be taking images. How much is that worth to you versus saving up for the Nikon and waiting to take images? Me, I’d ge the Nikon but that’s because 1) i can afford it and 2) I have lenses to cover that focal length. And in point of fact, I just bought a Sigma 18-200 (non-OS) for $110 off eBay, to give to my nephew who is just starting out. I think he’s going to be pretty happy (as will I, because I only spent $110).
