What would you rate the Nikon D-40 on a scale of 1-10?

I really dislike that you have to look through the view finder to see what your taking a picture of instead of having the screen preview what you’re taking a picture of. Does that make since? Ha ha. anyway…I just wanna know what you think of this camera…

Thanks :]

As an entry level DSLR a 10+, perhaps one of the best ever made.

Looking through a viewfinder makes a lot of sense if you are a photographer. If you are a snap-shooter, happy with a P&S camera, you may have wasted your money.

Holding a nearly two pound camera at arm’s length is just asking for camera movement and blurred images.

If you have not purchased a DSLR yet, you may find taking a class in photography will explain all. You can take the class using a 35 mm SLR (under $150 for a Nikon or Canon camera with lens). After you have completed a class or two, you will know if you want to start building a digital camera system … or not.

If you have ever watched the pros shooting at events, they ALWAYS hold the camera to their eye to compose, focus and adjust the exposure.

The only use I have found for the Live View on my D3 and D300 is when they are attached to my telescope (it will work on a microscope as well) and when I am shooting table tops. Since there is such a huge drain on the batteries (they can shoot over 1000 shots per charge, but in Live View can be as few as 40 or 50), I have the camera connected to a AC adapter when using the Live View mode.
