What kind of filter do I need?

After over a decade of not being involved in photography, I’ve bought myself a Nikon D60 dSLR and want to get back in the habit. Back in the day, I only had a skylight filter for my Minolta.

I think I’d like a UV filter and a polaroid filter for the new camera, which includes two Nikkor lenses (18-55mm VR and 55-200mm VR).

I don’t have the camera in front of me (it was delivered to relatives’ house where I’m visiting next week), so I can’t look at it directly, but I also need to know what size filter I’m supposed to be getting for those two lenses. Is there a website that tells you this kind of information?

My brother-in-law has recommended Tamron filters.

Any advice would be helpful.

18-55 takes 52 mm filter as does the 55-200. Either a skylight or a UV haze would work to protect your lens. That is the main thing they do. If you get a polarizer make sure it is a circular polarizer

then look in the specs

I use hoya filters myself
